Trove Thursday - Halloween Candy

Time for another Trove Thursday post! This time the theme is Halloween Candy and I found some really fun items on Artfire. :)

Just click the art to be taken to the Collection page, then you can click it again to go to the listing. :)

Here are the shops in the collection: Morgaine-du-Mer, Lutrick, smiss00, EyeSpider, HaffinaCreations, VeryVintage, MandiesCandies, SpoiledBratzwear, GlassCat, smokeymountainscents, SeaDayDesigns, and auntifranni. (If something sells, the alternates will be switched in, though, so this list may not stay 100% accurate.)

Art update- multi-sided dice make for fun crafting

My fiancé has started drilling me multi-sided dice, but the results are... well, wonky. He's getting better, but the first couple ones he drilled weren't quite centered and the first one chipped. I'll post a picture so you can see what I mean:
First drilled dice

The three bluish ones came out usable, though. Well, so did the red, I suppose, but since the point over the two chipped off, I figured it would be best to keep that one for myself.

Here's what I did with it- a cleric keychain:
Cleric D&D Keychain

I don't like red, but that's the color of my cleric's religious order (well, "clerics'" since I technically have two), so it worked out. The feather ties in because their holy symbol is a feather-in-amber. I actually wanted it to say "Messenger" but that was too long, so I just went with the shorter "Cleric".

The D4 works because that's what I roll for damage for some spells; definitely not warrior-clerics so nothing they do is particularly damaging. But if you need a fish down your pants, snakes in the peanut brittle, or a letter delivered, I'm your man... er... something like that, anyway.

Moving on, since I'm sure that's way more about my inspiration than anyone cares about, it was then time to use those other dice- with some more random results:
Dice cell phone charms!

The first has no words; it's just blue and clear with a D8 and I guess it kind of reminds me of an air elemental or something with that swirl, although I really just picked those beads because they matched the die so well.

The middle is a Bard one- that was entirely random because I had no idea what the heck to do with that color D6. I figured it was pretty and it matched shiny beads I had, so those would be good for bards since they're rather flamboyant. ;)

The back one is a Rogue one- this die looked so shadow-colored that I had to make it something thief-like, and those shiny beads remind me of gems.

I wanted to string all the dice on like that blue D8, but they weren't centered enough and everything kept twisting all funny. I guess that's okay, though; because they dangle off the rogue and bard ones, it looks like the dice are being rolled. I'll get better pictures of these later when I list them, hopefully this weekend or early next week, so look for those soon!

The geeky charm I listed this week was this Wood Elf one. It doesn't have any dice on it (it's long enough without that!) but I think it looks pretty neat:
Wood Elf cell phone charm or keychain in green and silver

This cell phone charm/keychain can be found here on Etsy and here on Artfire. (I can also switch out the cell phone strap with a split ring keychain like that cleric one above.) It should be no surprise that the first race one I made was Wood Elf, since that's my very favorite fantasy race. Wood Elves are just so much more interesting than High Elves- I mean, they get tattoos and fun clothing (still thinking of ways to include fake leather and fur on my costume), and they're a lot less stoic and bland than the other elf-types.

And while I'm sharing dice, check out the pretty set my fiancé bought me:
New dice!

Forest-colored ones! I'm a happy little elfling and can't wait to roll these for D&D. Hopefully they'll be luckier than my other sets. ;)

And since I'm sharing geeky things, look, a mace!

My best friend got it for me; it's a life-sized foam mace. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with it (besides use it with my cleric costume, whenever I get that done), but I think it's awesome! I have to figure out how to cover that yellow bit, though. Sharpie, maybe? I was thinking acrylic paints, but those would probably peal off the foam, right?

I love getting fun things in the mail!

I got a surprise letter in the mail from my friend Niere today. This had me beaming from ear-to-ear and going "Awww, she's so sweet!" then "Eep, I really need to work on that other present for her!". Apparently our friendship has morphed into "send each other random artsy surprise presents" which I'm certainly not going to complain about. ;)

Since I sent her this cell phone charm recently, that means she now had my address. Not in an "oh no, she's a crazy stalker" way, of course, but in a "hey, look at this stuff she made me!" way:

Bookmarks! Of her art! Of three of the characters she's drawn me! See, now you know why I'm doing the happy dance. :D That's my D&D character/writing muse Cyneric on the left, my writing character Raff (he's the one in that long story I'm writing that I can't share until November), and the girl is my art muse. Sorry for the flash reflecting- it was too blurry without it.

Now I have to think of good places to put these bookmarks. Books would be obvious, of course, but right now they're sitting on my desk so I can go "Wee!" every time I look at them. LOL! I'll probably use the Cyn one to bookmark my D&D notes, but I'll have to find equally useful places to keep Raff and Dragon-Girl.

I love Niere's art so much- I'm like her fangirl or something. XD

And another cool thing showed up today, too! One of my favorite Etsy customers has opened up a shop selling really neat cartilage earrings- you can find her at MayonnaiseJane.etsy.com. My cartilage piercings have been wonky so I wasn't able to get one for my actual ear, but I really wanted one of them anyway. Luckily, I have tons of ears to spare. ;)

I ordered one of her S-Curve earrings and stuck it on a pair of elf ears:

(Pay no attention to the crummy photo. Or the random earring at the earlobe; I haven't switched the earring I wear to the faire back on there yet.) Trust me, it looks great! When I ever get my cartilage piercings redone I'll wear it in that, but for now it's doing just great in my fake ears. Goes to show just how versatile fun earrings can be. ;)

So yeah, if you like fun earrings, check out her shop! If you're curious, I bought those ears from this Etsy shop a few years ago.

Yarrr! Celebratin' wit' a sale fer Pirate Day!

Yarrr, I be celebratin' th' merry day o'rogues an' offerin' a sale o' th' booty in me shoppe.

In regular words:
I probably should have done this earlier since it's already halfway through the 19th, but for the next day (the 19th and 20th) I'm running a sale in my Artfire shop- take 10% off every item in the shop with the code PIRATEDAY10. Just enter that when checking out and the total will be adjusted. :)

I'm not sure if this code will work until midnight tonight, noon tomorrow, or midnight tomorrow (I entered it in as a one day coupon at 1pm EST on the 19th), so if you can't get it to work on the 20th, let me know and I'll make up a new code for you.

In honor of Pirate Day I listed two new piratey things this week:
Red and Black Pirate Double Cartilage Chain Earring

"Red and Black Pirate Double Cartilage Chain Earring" - that can be found here in my Artfire shop (it's also here on Etsy, but my sale is just on Artfire). I'm really tempted to make one of these for my pirate renfaire costume. ;)

And this pirate cell phone charm:

This is here on Artfire (and here on Etsy)
Unlike the other two charms in my shop, this is just a cell phone charm; it doesn't have the lobster clasp to make it a zipper pull/keychain. If you'd like the lobster clasp added, I can do that for you- just let me know.

I also have all sorts of skull things and ocean/beach items, so I figured a pirate sale was appropriate. ;)

Art update: Rangers, kitties, dragons, orcs, and elves

Sounds pretty random, but the title just means that it's time for another art update. ;) I've been listing and making a lot of new stuff to get my shops ready for Halloween (although I've also been doing non-costume things), so there's a wide variety this week.

Cell Phone Charms
Three new cell phone charms/keychains this week, two of which were inspired by Dungeons and Dragons.

Paladin charm:
Paladin blue and silver keychain cell phone charm

Like this earring, it was inspired by the paladin my fiancé plays in D&D whose colors are white and blue. This one sold (the same day it was listed- that was the first time that's ever happened and it had me doing the happy dance!) but I will be making more like it. :)

And a ranger charm:
Green and silver ranger cell phone charm keychain

(Yes, yes, my phone is still as old as dirt.) This one can be found here and here.

I used green stone beads (jade and aventurine) to represent a ranger's preferred wooded environment and the feather is for either the fletching on their arrows or a winged animal companion.

And I made this purple kitty charm as a random present for my friend Niere:
Purple kitty cell phone charm

I added the cat charm because I knew she likes cats, purple's her favorite color (and this charm matches her purple cell phone- cool!), and the leaf is to make it look kinda elf-y. I'm just glad there was something I could make her because she's done so much wonderful art for me over the years that I wanted to give her something in return. Well, I have plans to make her something larger, but I'm not sure when I'll have time to do that. So she'll be getting another random present at some point in the future. ;)

I found more letter beads so I'll be making more of those geeky charms, but unfortunately the new ones I found have the holes going the opposite direction, so future charms will have the words facing down rather than across. I don't like that too much, so I'll be on the lookout for beads that have holes on the sides rather than top/bottom.

Cartilage Chain Earrings
Just two of these this week- well, three, but the third was just a minor design change (ran out of small orange beads so used a bigger one on my Party Tree earring).

Skyswimmer's Wing:
Blue and silver cartilage chain earring - Skyswimmer's Wing
(Can be found here.)

I made this sort of with one of my favorite video game characters in mind (Pit, the angel from Smash Bros and Kid Icarus), but while I was thinking of a name for it I realized that it looked aquatic as well as aerial, so named it "Skyswimmer's Wing" after the song "Skyswimmer" by Enter the Haggis. (Although, in hindsight, if I was going for an EtH song, I should have just picked my favorite one and gone with "Icarus", which would have worked even better for something inspired by Pit.) ...wow, sorry, broke into geeky ramblings here. Combining art, Celtic rock, video games, and mythology makes me a happy little elf girl. ;)

I also made this pair of earrings for a custom order:
Pair of Hot Pink and Black Cartilage Chain Earrings

Dragon Horns
Red and Black Dragon or Demon Horns

I made these red and black dragon horns with a fire-breathing red dragon in mind, but they're also rather demonic. And shiny. They're very shiny. ;) These can be found here and here.

Blue Dragon or Fairy Costume Horns

While making these blue horns I couldn't decide if they were more "blue dragon" or "water fae", so I guess I got the inspiration from both creatures. These are here and here.

Costume Ears
Green Orc or Goblin Costume Ears with Black Headband

I kind of have a thing for orcs (okay, so I only have crushes on two of them, but it's still weird) so I decided to make some orc ears- these can be found here and here.

And half-elf ears:
Half-Elf Costume Ears on a Brown Headband

I realized after I'd designed these goblin ears that the design would be perfect for half-elf ears were I to make them ... well, not orange. This is kind of a cross between the hobbit ears and the elf ones because they're pointer than the halfling but not as large as the elf. These can be found here and here.

I'll be wearing a pair like this to the renfaire at some point in the next month, so I'll be sure to get a picture of what they look like on a human model then. :)

Bracers
And the last new thing this week are these crocheted autumn wood elf bracers:
Crocheted Autumn Wood Elf Bracers

They're kind of like these camouflage ones but for a different season. Gotta be able to blend into the forest at all seasons of the year when you're a wood elf. ;) They're here and here.

Man, I really have to start posting more often. I've been so busy lately that I end up doing a mass art dump post once a week or so instead of spacing it out. Sorry about that, guys. But hey, lots of pictures are good, right?

Trove Thursday - One Last Look At Summer

I've been sadly neglecting Trove Thursday posts- sorry about that! This week's Trove was inspired by the Blogfire Guild's theme of "The last hurrah". I decided to feature the AF Plurkies with this one, though. So without further ado, the One Last Look At Summer Trove. Because I'm not willing to give up on summer just yet. ;)

Just click the art to be taken to the Collection page, then you can click it again to go to the listing. :)

This collection includes JewelledTrellis, SpiritEssenceArt, merigreenleaf, EmilyClaireCreations, CharSpirit, M2bC, Scarlet-Impressions, TheBeadedBranch, Nightmaiden, KatsAllThat, catinalife, and cnewcomb. (There are also a few alternates who'll be switched in to the collection should something sell.)
